Gary and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary in Sedona on October 4th. Since it’s an 8-hour drive, we took turns driving for 2-hour increments. It worked out well because it gave us a chance to nap, read and nag each other about our driving habits!
We left the house two hours later than I wanted to leave. I had to Let Go and Let God because Gary needed to rest that morning due to a G.I. upset. I took my coloring book out to our cabana to pass the time while waiting for my healing concoction to work on him.
It was my turn to drive and I was going the speed limit on the freeway when the gentle rain turned into a monster downpour causing me to slow down. I was feeling stressed because we were next to a huge semi-truck and I was fearful to pass him in spite of Gary’s urging to do so. Thankfully, the rain let up and I was able to resume my speed.
When it was Gary’s turn to drive, it had turned dark and we were relying on the Google map that I had printed out. After a few wrong turns, we finally arrived safely at our lovely Airbnb around 8:30 pm. I immediately had a beer because I felt frazzled due to trying to find our way in the dark.
The home we stayed at had a hot tub in the backyard. Shortly after getting in, it soon started raining with lightning and thunder so we figured it would be in our best interest to return indoors to avoid electrocution.
We had a wonderful hike on Wednesday morning and a healing session in the afternoon followed by a delightful dinner at our favorite vegetarian restaurant Chocalat Tree.
Thursday was our anniversary and I had the brilliant idea to rent mountain bikes in town. The guy from the bike shop was helpful in getting us situated and explained how to get to the area that had beginner trails. Gary and I both thought that the whole area had beginner trails so we didn’t bother checking out the map.
We mistakenly ended up taking the intermediate trail that had some advanced sections. We had to walk our bikes through 90% of it and I was feeling frustrated and wanted to turn around. Just at that moment, another biker came along and asked if we needed help.
We explained our predicament and he showed us a path that would lead to the beginner trails. We were so grateful to get off that difficult trail. The beginner trail ended up being fun and I started enjoying myself. There were many life lessons during this time and the biggest lesson was to pay closer attention when someone gives us direction!
We ended our anniversary with a couple’s massage followed by a delicious dinner at the Golden Goose restaurant with a complimentary dessert for our special day. I felt blessed that I got to share this special anniversary with my awesome husband and partner through life.
