When I was 14-years-old, I had a dream that my maternal grandmother died. When I woke up, I headed to our kitchen and found my mother in tears. She told me her mother died last night. I shared my dream and tried to comfort Mom.
One year later, I had another dream that my maternal grandfather was getting married. I told my mother about the dream and she scoffed at it until the next week when she found out her father was indeed getting married again. Mom was very upset and I felt responsible due to my dream. I shut myself down at that point. I was busy being a teenager and getting through high school, so I put my gifts aside.
At the age of 37 something reawakened me when I read Shirley MacLaine’s book, Out On a Limb. I resonated with her journey about discovering the mind, body and spirit connection as well as the dimensions of time and space. It opened my eyes to new possibilities such as reincarnation and the realization that life is eternal.
I had been raised in a Greek Orthodox home, but couldn’t relate to it’s philosophy. That led me to explore different religions until I found a home in the Church of Religious Science. I studied the Science of Mind spiritual teachings of Ernest Holmes which opened me up to the realization that all paths lead to God. It became a way of life for me as I felt the presence of God in my life.
I’ve always been fascinated about life after death and spirituality and read many books about it. One of my favorites was Dr. Elisabeth Kubler Ross’ book, On Death and Dying, where she explores the 5 stages of grief and what the terminally ill have to teach us. That book brought me to the realization that death is an illusion and it planted the seed for my future career as a hospice nurse.
After taking Reiki classes, I began practicing Reiki in 2006 and became a Reiki Master in 2008. I started teaching Reiki classes soon afterward and also started a Reiki healing circle at the Church of Religious Science which continued for 8 years. Reiki changed me as I felt my own energy blocks dissolve. It promoted balance, harmony, inner peace and deep relaxation for me, my students and clients.
While working as a Hospice RN Case Manager and visiting patients in their homes, I felt a strong calling to give my hospice patients Reiki. With the family’s permission, I gave Reiki treatments to select patients and saw amazing results – such as dramatically reduced pain, anxiety and insomnia. I loved the Reiki energy because it came through me first as I channeled it to others.
The next step in my spiritual journey was taking Shamanic Energy Healing classes in 2009 with Jamee Curtis who lives in Peru with the Shamans. I found a stronger connection to my spiritual source and soul purpose. Through my classes, I felt a healing take place at a mind, body and spiritual level. I completed all four directions and became a full Mesa Carrier and started my path as a Shamanic Practitioner. I now combine Reiki and Shamanic energy healing for my clients. It is truly a blessing!
In 2012, my husband and I found Seventh Chakra yoga studio which is located 4 miles from our home. We fell in love with Kundalini yoga and took Teacher Training at that studio where I now teach 2 classes a week. Kundalini yoga has been a perfect compliment to my spiritual path along with a 12-step program.
Kundalini yoga led me to an inward journey to my soul as I began seeing things from a new perspective and recognizing the oneness of everything. I began to see the unseen. I am both clairsentient and clairaudient. I now embrace these gifts I have been given and trust the truth that lies within me.
During my 13 years as a Hospice Nurse, I kept a journal of my experiences with my terminally ill patients. Many of them came back to me with Messages from the Afterlife. I also received messages from my mother who made her transition January 13, 2013. My journey taught me that there is no death. After many long years, I turned my journal entries into my book Messages from the Afterlife: Memoirs of a Hospice Nurse.
I feel blessed that I am surrounded by highly-consciousness people who help me grow in ways I never dreamed possible. My goal is to be of service to others and live a life filled with love and gratitude.
