I frequently wrote in my book about the benefits of cannabis, also known as medical marijuana, in treating pain and anxiety for hospice patients as well as others.
During my career, I would encourage my patients’ families to give cannabis a try for their loved ones. Unfortunately, it wasn’t easy to come by as it is today. Hospice did not provide cannabis, so the family would have to find other means to obtain it for their terminal loved ones.
I saw firsthand how inadequate most of the medications were for our hospice patients – especially those pharmaceuticals for treating nausea, anorexia, pain and insomnia. Morphine was somewhat effective, but had numerous side effects.
I can remember the daughter of one of my patients was elated to tell me how wonderful cannabis was for her dad who hadn’t eaten in days due to severe nausea. She found him rummaging for food in the refrigerator at 2 am after he had a dose of cannabis. She found it hilarious and laughed when she recanted the story to me!
I had another metastatic cancer patient that was very peaceful, calm and pain free. I was surprised because I expected her to be in a lot of pain due to the kind of cancer she had. Her son showed me the bottle of CBD oil that he was administering to her around the clock to keep her comfortable. The morphine we provided was still sitting on the counter-top unopened. That was my first encounter with CBD oil and I was impressed.
I have enjoyed this alternative medicine myself for the past 20 years and found it very effective for treating my anxiety, nausea and pain – especially inflammation. I have also used it recreationally. It’s about using the correct dose for you, just like pharmaceuticals. It’s not a one size fits all plant medicine.
I believe we must all find our own truth that lies within and not be swayed by the masses. We can’t expect our doctor, spouse or government to have the answers to our lives. We have the answers to our life. The challenge is to trust the answers that we receive from our inner wisdom and have the courage to move forward in the direction of our destiny.
As I wrote this blog, I detoured over to this site to learn more. I found it very informative about cannabis and non-biased. Please check it out if you would like further information about this alternative medicine.
